Job Qualifications
To qualify for this role, you’ll need:
- A degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited college or university, such as a BA or associate degree, recognized by AOTA (American Occupational Therapy Association).
- Certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) by the NBCOT if required by state law.
- A valid and current license and/or registration as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) in the state where you’ll be working.
Job Responsibilities
As an Occupational Therapy Assistant, your role will include:
- Patient Care:
- Deliver comprehensive therapy treatments to patients, working under the guidance of an Occupational Therapist (OTR) and adhering to state-specific guidelines.
- Collaborate with OTs to identify suitable patients for rehabilitation programs and assist in referring them appropriately.
- Documentation:
- Accurately record daily participation and progress notes for patients, ensuring timely and precise documentation.
- Obtain the OTR’s co-signature for all progress notes as required.
- Medical Orders:
- Ensure that treatment plans, re-certifications and discharge procedures are backed by appropriate MD orders.
- Additional Support:
- Assist with additional documentation requirements based on state regulations.
- Perform any other related tasks that align with state guidelines and support the smooth functioning of the therapy program.
